Karen lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art. Her work has toured all over the UK and internationally from village halls to Sydney Opera House.
She has designed for most of Scotland’s leading theatre companies, collaborating and devising with writers, choreographers and filmmakers. Her work covers community and education projects, large scale site specific promenade performances and installations as well as designing in-house and touring productions.
Karen’s designs for Lung Ha include: The Table, An Unexpected Hiccup, Castle Lennox ( c/o Lyceum Edinburgh), We Are All Just Little Creatures (c/o Curious Seed), Emma and Gill (c/o Catherine Wheels ),Thingummy Bob, The Three Sisters, Dr Stirlingshire’s Discovery (c/o Grid Iron), The Hold, Un Petit Molière, Instant Travels to Pop Up Cities and The Home Made Child.
Recent work includes Monkeys Everywhere (Damien Warren Smith/Parrot Ox Productions/Yarn) Thrown (National Theatre of Scotland), The Celtic Story (Regular Music), Aladdin (Johnny McKnight at Macrobert Stirling), Sean and Daro (Traverse Theatre), Don Quixote (Dundee Rep/Perth Theatre ), The Children (Dundee Rep), Rubble (Scottish Opera, a new opera by Johnny McKnight and Gareth Williams for Scottish Opera Young Company), Lots and Not Lots (Greg Sinclair), Field – Something For The Future Now (Chris Devaney, Curious Seed/EIF/Festival Cultura Inglesa Brazil)
Other projects include: design of the multi-use music venue in The Hub for the Edinburgh International Festival 2023, including the entrance, seating modules and bar space, along with designers Becky Minto and Kate Bonney; And if Not Now… When, an film installation by Philip Pinsky and Karen Lamond in the National Museum Edinburgh for COP 26; Take a Seat (Lyceum foyer), an installation by freelance artists during lockdown.
