Lung Ha Theatre Company is excited to be commissioning multiple areas of research which will allow us to explore future methods of sharing our expertise and broadening opportunities for learning disabled artists.
Background
This research will allow us to develop a new training and guidance tool which outlines mitigations and actions others can take to improve conditions for learning-disabled adults, currently under the working title Lung Ha Access and Creative Principles Toolkit. This research will take place alongside and will be informed by the soft launch of the Lung Ha Touring Company, which works with a smaller group of actors from the ensemble. It will also be developed with future strategic aims relating to exchanging knowledge in the sector and within our Creative Development strands of our Pathway for Progression.
We are looking for a Project Manager and Researcher(s) to work with the Lung Ha team across three main areas of research, as follows:
- Actor support research – a piece of work to explore and define the types and level of support learning disabled actors may need within the Lung Ha Touring Company.
- Actor payment and terms of employment – to explore the barriers around equitable payment in line with benefits and other conditions / impacts . And how to implement best practice into a producing model.
- Sector – two pieces of work with a slightly different focus and from a different perspective:
a. Theatres and companies – exploring what would need to be in place for the touring company to work within a wide range of theatre venues and with a wide range of producing companies .
b. Actors – exploring what actors would benefit from being aware of when working in a variety professional capacities within the sector. This would apply to actors auditioning for other companies / how to approach opportunities outwith those of Lung Ha and the Touring Company. Please note that this does not mean that LHTC would take on the role of an agent.
Please Note: This is a new way of working for Lung Ha, and we are keen to work with a Project Manager and Researcher(s) that can help develop the research tools and inform best practice to disseminate the findings.
