Festival Reviews 2024: Galahad Takes A Bath

© Josh Righton

A beautifully crafted show that hooks you from the very first moment you step into Galahad’s world!

From the lute versions of modern-day pop songs playing in the background, to the simple yet effective set and props dotted about the space, including the gentle and soothing flickers of candles and of course a bathtub… Because why not? Who doesn’t love a bath?!

And for Galahad, it’s a relaxing therapy – let’s face it, being a Knight of the Round Table isn’t an easy job, and it’s no easy life being the one chosen to find the Holy Grail!

Galahad has been tasked with taking part in a press conference where he will speak publicly about his quest and answer questions about his personal life and his relationship with his estranged father, Lancelot.

Clearly, it’s been a long day for Galahad and he is desperate to unwind in a long hot bath. But having so many questions launched at him left, right and centre means there’s a lot on Galahad’s mind as he fills his bath. Finally able to settle in, Galahad reveals all about his life, his visions and his relationships with his fellow knights. The media gets a right inside scoop on all the gossip in Arthur’s court.

Galahad Takes a Bath is a sensational play, and one of the best I have seen in this year’s Edinburgh Festival. Forest Malley’s representation of Galahad is witty, sensitive and perfectly sublime. Jojo Jones’ play offers delicious storytelling and hilarious scenarios, while also depicting Galahad’s inner mental struggles and torments. Carla Troconis’ directing is top-notch. This show has been the most enjoyable for me to review this year, and it is one I will carry forever in my mind and heart.

Don’t let this bath get cold, grab your tickets now and relax in the soothing world of Galahad Takes a Bath!
